Pfc. U.S. Army, World War II-Pfc. Brown was killed in action by small arms fire on 7-9-1944 while serving as an Engineer with the 23rd Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Armored Tank Division in France. This Division Landed at Normandy, France on June 23, 1944, and entered combat against the Villiers-Fossard salient N.E. of St. Lo.
He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Rex E. Brown of Marseilles, Illinois, and enlisted at Camp Grant, Rockford, Illinois on March 27, 1942.
He does leave four sisters, Mrs. Mahala Eakman of Peoria, Mrs. Bertha Stern of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mrs. Prentis Lough of Fort Worth, Texas, and Miss Rebecca Brown at home, and five brothers, Sgt. Bernal Brown, and Sgt. Joseph Brown, both in the South Pacific, Louis Brown of Peoria, Tom & John Brown at Tomahawk, Wisconsin.
