Sergeant David MacKenzie from Michigan was a radio operator aboard a C-47 Dakota from the 435th TCG of the US 9th Air Force.
His aircraft flew on June 5th from the Welford British airfield, located northwest of Newbury, he was engaged in the "Albanny" mission for June 6, 1944, carrying a parachute stick from the 3rd Company G Battalion belonging to the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.


While flying over Normandy, the C-47 was hit by the German Flak and crashed at 1:20 in Clainville (around Picauville).


There were no survivors among the 5 crew members and the 14 paratroopers. 3 paratroopers were able to jump in time.
