On June 30, 1944, Able Company attacked a German strongpoint instead of "Le Mont HEBERT". The tank in which he is , is hit by a direct blow , catch fire then explodes. Only the commander of the tank gets out alive and is taken prisoner.
The American army will only retake this area after a few days. Only two bodies are found and identified. The other two crew members are therefore declared MIA. Human remains are discovered on the site but are not identifiable and will be buried.
The family will be informed of the disappearance in August 45 , and the status will be modified at KIA in November 1949 by the army.
