A short history of the crash

The plane was hit once at the level of the ventral turret.
Sgt Magee, injured, pulled out to find that his parachute was unusable.
The plane was again affected much more seriously and went into a spin.
He was then at 20000 feet.

Three men were able to jump, Lt Herrington, Sgt Gordon and Sgt Magee without his parachute.
Sgt Magee landed on the glass roof of the St-Nazaire train station, and remained in metal joists.
With 28 serious injuries (severed arm, perforated kidney and lung, leg and ankle fractures etc.), but alive.
Hailed by a German doctor, he was able to keep his arm.

After a month and a half of hospitalization, he was transferred to a prison camp.
He died at the age of 84.
