HISTOIRE
James était le troisième fils dans la famille de cinq enfants.

Les frères aînés qui ont également servi dans la Seconde Guerre mondiale étaient (Sergent) Frank et (S / Sergent) Herbert .
 
Les jeunes sœurs étaient Alice et Marian. James est diplômé de St. Lawrence High School en 1941.
 
 
Après l'école secondaire et avant les États-Unis était en guerre, James est allé à l'Indiana pour chercher du travail.
Comme les emplois étaient rares, James décida de se joindre au service.
 
James s'est enrôlé dans le Corps aérien de l'armée le 21 août 1941, à Fort Benjamin Harrison près d'Indianapolis, Indiana.
Après être entré au service, James a été assigné divers travaux: un M.P., un soudeur, parmi eux.
 
Il a postérieurement demandé et a été accepté comme un cadet de l'aviation le 20 janvier 1943.
Il a été commandé comme un Second Lieutenant comme pilote le 3 novembre 1943.
 
La dernière fois que sa famille l'a vu était quand il était à la maison en permission en novembre de 1943.
Le 23 mai 1944, le Lt. Shoop est arrivé en Angleterre.
 
Son avion a été touché par la flak allemand.
Avec une pleine charge de bombes à bord, l'avion a explosé.
 
Le maire de la ville française de Cheux enterra les restes des hommes.
Environ un an après la guerre, les restes de l'équipage furent déterrés et enterrés à nouveau en France sous le nom de «soldats inconnus».
 
Plus tard, l'enregistrement des Tombes des États-Unis identifia James par sa taille estimée et la taille de la chaussure trouvée dans la tombe.
 
Cette information a ete confirmee par soeur Alice toujours en vie et qui habite en Floride
