Volume 1

This book was born from the creation a few years ago of a website constituting a database on the soldiers resting in the two American cemeteries of Normandy of the second world war, St James and Colleville-sur-mer.

The purpose of this site is to tell the story of these women and men, to give them a face, to perpetuate their memories forever and to allow everyone to discover them through their lives before and during their military service.

This book presents some of these stories taken from the website; unique stories of these soldiers going as far as the ultimate sacrifices struck for many in their youth.

To this great generation that crossed the Atlantic to liberate a continent they barely knew, the tribute of their sacrifice is paid here, the flame of memory does not go out.

As you dive through the pages of the lives of these heroes, we wish you to have the impression of becoming familiar with all these soldiers and of being able, during one of your passages in Normandy, to go to one of these places and collect you there.

Let’s never forget that if we can enjoy our freedom today, it’s largely thanks to them.
