By Tommy P. Lanfredi From now on there are 9 388 graves in the American cemetery of Colleville-sur-mer. A sailor of the US Navy is on returning to the country 72 years after D-Day. It is the sailor John Anderson, of Willmar, in Minnesota. been born on September 25th, 1919, as for the most part of the American people he is marked by the slander of Pearl Harbor's attack, he decides to undertake in the navy on February 7th, 1942. Arrived after the operation Torch in North Africa, he will participate as pilot of LCT in the landing in Sicily then that in Italy. In January, 44 he joins Anglettere to prepare the landing on French coasts. The D-Day is killed when the boat, the LCT 30, is affected by a German shell which made exploded the engine room where was John, he was going be 25 years old and he died for the freedom. His body will be interred in the cemetery of Colleville where it will rest(base) under a nameless grave Block H, Row 11, Grave 14. Thanks to his family and to the progress of the science, the body was able to be identified thanks to the DNA, its rests were repatriated in the United States, of the French ground where it rested almost 72 years, it is finally in his native land that it is in peace..... Thank you sir, we'll never forget your history.........for my american and english friends, i join the full story of the sailor john Anderson below. |
