Stele in memory of seven paratroopers of Company I of the 505th US Parachute Infantry Regiment, killed at this location by a German machine gun on June 6, 1944. The monument was erected in 2004 by William H TUCKER who was part of this group, but he narrowly escaped death. He came back every year to lay flowers on the graves of his comrades. After his death on November 21, 2008 in the United States, his ashes were placed in Normandy with his comrades according to his last wishes during a ceremony on June 6, 2009. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
