STORY | |||||||
On January 17th 1945 the 782nd boarded trains in Le Harve after arriving on French soil. The antiquated train took the men to their staging area near Camp Luckystrike, near St Valery. The train came to the end of the line, but the engineer had never driven this route or this train before. Unfortunately he braked too late and crashed into the train station, killing 3 Officers and 51 Enlisted Men. The wounded were taken to Dieppe, Yvetot and Rouen. The dead were buried at St Andre de l'Eure with a simple ceremony. |
