PVT William H. Neuberger was born in 1923, unknow what day or month by various resources, born in Missouri. To his parents William S. Born in 1886 and Estelle born in 1888, his parents only had William. He completed two years of high school in Westchester, New York where he grew up. After high school it is not known much aut the details, he was worked as an actor. PVT William H. Neuberger enlisted in the US Army on October 18th 1941 in New York City, New York, with service number He served with the 82nd Airborne Division, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment Company D. 82nd Airborne Division (minus the 504th PIR) began training for Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. Originally sent to Northern Ireland, the 505th went to the Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire region of England in February 1944. In the American airborne landings in Normandy in June 1944, the 505th PIR actually jumped before its scheduled "H-Hour", thus earning their motto "H-minus". Upon completing operations in the Ste. Mere-Eglise area, the unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Early in the morning the regiments of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions flew from England and were dropped under heavy fire and high winds over the Cherbourg Peninsula. Many paratroopers missed their assigned landings, and the two divisions overlapped greatly.

During the early hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944, William and other paratroopers of the 505th crossed the English Channel in C-47’s headed for the Cherbourg Peninsula in France. They came under heavy fire from the Germans and at about 0300 hours began to jump, their designated drop zones were near the village of Sainte- -Mère-Église. Their mission was to seize the town. PVT William H. Neuberger was killed in action on June 6th 1944 in Normandy, France, for his actions he was awarded the Purple Heart.
