Born June 07, 1919 Barker Broome county NEW YORK. Enlisted on November 23, 1942 at Binghamton NEW YORK. He was assigned to the 94th reconnaissance squadron 14th Armored Division 7th army, registration number 32587912, resident in New York Broome county. T / 5 Leslie R. PERRY was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (posthumously), before falling into a shower of enemy fire in Germany when his unit was ambushed by German tanks. According to the quote: “On April 15, 1945, the convoy that included Corporal Perry was ambushed in the town of Gottsfeld, Germany, by enemy tanks and infantry. machine gun mounted on his vehicle to protect the withdrawal of his comrades. Seriously wounded by withered enemy fire, he courageously continued to use his weapon with devastating effect until he was killed by fire from an enemy tank. " His brother the corporal Leslie R PERRY died in action on April 15, 1945 in Bavaria, GERMANY. The third brother George A PERRY served in the US NAVY where he was wounded ...

Arrived on November 26th, 1944 in England, the division polishes up its training until December 24th In the daytime of the departure and the crossing towards France and Normandy. The division embarks on two ships of which the SS Leopoldville which receives 262th and 264th regiment Infantry and leaves Southampton in training(formation) accompanied with four escort ships. Arrived unless 5 miles from Cherbourg, a German submarine U-Boat 486 is in ambush and sends a torpedo to the ship. He is touched on the starboard beam before. 802 soldiers over the 2235 which he(it) transported are killed in this drama. Leopoldville is marine cemetery today. |
