Cary was born in Eden Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, to John Joseph Armstrong and Anna Mae Cary. Pfc. Armstrong joined the service 1n October 1942 and was assigned to a medical detachment in the 106th Cavalry Mechanized and was sent to Camp Livingston, La. He later took three months hospital training at O'Reilly General Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, graduating in July, 1943. After graduation he was sent to Camp Hood, Texas, and remained there until March when he was sent to England and about July l,1944 he landed in Northern France. On August 6, 1944, he was assisant ambulance driver and his vehicle was transporting wounded men to a hospital in the vicinity of Le Mans, France. While returning from the hospital, his vehicle was set upon by enemy soldiers. He was seriously wounded at that time, and as a result of this he passed away. |
