The 2nd Infantry Regiment was a component part of the 5th Infantry Division.
This Division was activated in 1939 but did not enter combat until it landed on Utah Beach, Normandy, three days after D-Day.
For the remainder of the war in Europe the Division participated in numerous operations and engagements of the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns.

Arthur Hamilton Fuller Jr hailed from Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina.
He attended North Carolina State College at Raleigh under the ROTC program (3rd Battalion, 1st Regiment, Company L).
He majored in Chemical Engineering.

While at University he was a Kappa Alpha order member, member of the Interfraternity Council, treasurer of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and member of the Life Saving Corps, the Officer’s Club and the Football team.
