STORY

Roy lived with his brothers and sister at 840 Thomas Avenue Forest Park in Provisio County, Illinois.

He was at the Ste Bernadine school class 1937, he worked as a clerk, and his father was an evaluator.  After enlisting in July 1941, he was sent to the Officer Candidate School of the US Army Corps on 11 March 1942.

Training will begin at Santa Ana Air Force Base (California) Stockton Field, King City Airfield (California) and Hoobs Airfield (New Mexico)

The 388 th BG was activated on December 24, 1942 at Gowan Field (Idaho), arrived in England on June 23, 1943, it deployed 11 missions over Europe.

It takes off at 5:35 from the station 136 of Knettishall (England) to bomb the industrial sites of Stuttgart , when the formation of B17 arrived on its target, there were a lot of clouds and smoke, and they saw nothing, The top B17 gives the order to choose another target or the weather is clearer, they choose the industrial complex of the city of Strausberg, the flack is intense and precise, and hunters Folk Wulf 190 arrive on the formation of Lt Mohr.

His B17 was struck by a fighter, one engine caught fire, there was a large hole in the right wing, the propeller stalled and struck the stabilizer.

Unable to follow the other aircraft, he withdrew from the formation at 35 miles (56 km) on the return of the mission, and was immediately chased by several enemy aircraft.

It crashes on the town of Voves (Eure et loir).

Several crew members parachute but 4 airmen are killed or missing.

They were declared dead on August 10, 1945.

Note:

the exact location of the crash is not precise, according to the documents I read, some talk about Voves and other Le Coudray 2 communes of Eure et Loir.

Teams arriving at 25 missions could return to the United States
