T/Sgt. Kenneth Eugene Candy was born in Chanute Kansas to Mr. & Mrs. Sidney H. Candy Oct. 18, 1920, moved to Newton Kansas with his parents when he was 2 years old, was a member of the Methodist church.

He graduated from Newton High school in1938, he attended Emporia Teachers College.

He entered the Army Air Service in July 1942. He received training at A. & M. College in Texas and a specialist school in Seattle Washington and also trained in Idaho, Wyoming and Florida before going overseas in July 1943 as a Technical Sergeant, served as an engineer on a B-17 of the 15th Air Force in Africa and Italy. January 21 1944. On that date the plane and crew were lost at sea on his 7th mission.

He was decorated the early part of January by General Atkinson with an Air Medal for heroic action over enemy targets, he also was presented with five Oakleaf Cluster for having completed thirty-five missions as an engineer and top turret gunner on a Flying Fortress, his home base was Italy.

Kenneth is survived by his parents and one sister.
