Le Private First Class Elmer G. HORN fut tué au combat lors de la contre-attaque allemande contre le 3th Battalion du 11th Infantry Regiment au Pont de Pruniers se situant dans la tete de pont de Sainte-Gemmes-sur-Loire durant la nuit du 8 au 9 aout 1944. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cette contre-attaque eu lieu suite à la prise du pont de Pruniers durant la journée du 8 aout 1944 par le 3th Battalion, cette prise fut possible graces à des renseignements fourni par des résistants qui indiquérent aux troupes américaines que les allemands n'avaient pas fait encore sauter le pont et que celui-ci était le dernier dans le secteur qui permettait de franchir la Maine. Suite aux informations une reconnaissance fut envoyée, celle-ci réussi à éliminer par surprise le soldat allemand chargé de faire exploser le wagon chargé d'exploif situé au milieu du pont en cas d'avancé des troupes américaines. |
